Guitar Projects
We have been playing and tinkering with guitars since we were a teenager. Our first guitar was a 1929 Martin acoustic that my dad gave us when we were around 13. We're not sure how old he was when he got it, but we have pictures of him playing it when he was around 18 - 20 years old. We still have it, and though it is somewhat beat up, it is a treasure!
A bit later, in high school, we started playing some rock music with some friends, and built a very crude electric guitar out of three layers of plywood and a neck from a smashed classical acoustic that we found at the local dump. The middle layer of plywood was hollowed out, and had a small speaker mounted inside as a pickup. We later modified this with a Hagstrom neck, and a DeArmond surface mount pickup. Unfortunately, it is long gone, and we don't seem to have any pictures of it.
Over the years we have owned a few other guitars that we now wish we still had. We bought a new Fender Telecaster around 1970, which we later traded for a Gretsch hollow body electric, which was eventually stolen. We do still have a '60s Tiesco solid body guitar (currently in pieces being stripped), that someone found in the trash back in the '70s and gave to us. We also have an older Honer Les Paul clone probably from the '60s or '70s that we got on eBay - we have used that to experiment with some pickup switching setups. When our high school band got back together for our 30th reunion, we bought a Godin SD solid body electric, which we still use as well.
However, we still like to tinker, so, in this section, you can find some pictures and details on some of the guitars we have built or modded.
