Fender Super 6 with Modified Cab

Well, this cab had been sitting around in our very small shop, taking up a big chunk of space, for quite a few years. We originally bought this mid 70's Fender Super 6 used back around 1999 or so after our high school band got back together and started playing gigs periodically. We didn't have a decent amp, and a local musician was selling this one. It was a nice amp, but WAY too big and heavy (I wasn't a high school kid anymore). A few years later, we put the chassis in a regular Twin Reverb cab with a couple of EV 12" speakers (this chassis is identical to a Twin Reverb chassis). Also an awesome amp, but still too heavy (if no longer too big). We didn't really know what to do with the old cab, but really didn't want to just chuck it. At first we were also reluctant to alter it, but, hey, its kind of in the way...

Unfortunately, we don't have a picture of this amp before this project, so here is one I found on line:

This amp was awesome, and sounded great, but was getting to be too much to lug around. We decided that one possibility was to cut it into separate head and cab units. Our hope was that that will make the whole amp more manageable. Initially, we were planning on using the same two 12" speakers from the Twin Reverb cab, but, as we discovered during the project, replacing the baffle board in the bottom half was going to be problematic (it was glued to the sides and bottom in slots), so we left the original baffle intact, and shortened the cab to a 4 10" speaker configuration. The Tolex was in really tough shape, so we also decided to strip the old Tolex off, sand the cab, and probably leave it natural wood with several coats of urethane.

So, we took a deep breath, and started cutting...
